GMapFP Free is a Joomla component designed to showcase places and locate them easily using Google Maps or OpenStreetMap.
Version 6.1.0 is compatible with Joomla 4, Joomla 5 and Joomla 6. The interface is available in English and French, and all layouts are responsive on desktop computers, tablets and smartphones.
This component was initially developed for the Châteauneuf-sur-Loire Tourist Office website. Its original purpose was to present tourist attractions, accommodation, restaurants and other points of interest on a map, while associating each location with the information required to showcase it effectively.
GMapFP was later made available to the Joomla community. Since its first release, the component has regularly evolved to support new Joomla versions and meet the different needs of its users.
GMapFP Free 6.1.0 features
GMapFP Free allows you to:
- create as many locations as you need;
- position each location on a map;
- organise locations into a category hierarchy;
- display all locations, a single category or a selection of locations;
- use Google Maps or OpenStreetMap;
- associate an image, a description and contact details with each location;
- link a location to a Joomla article or an external URL.
Map configuration
The map can be configured to meet your website’s requirements:
- choice between Google Maps and OpenStreetMap;
- selection of the map layer used for display;
- configuration of multiple OpenStreetMap layers;
- definition of the initial map centre and zoom level;
- automatic map centring;
- automatic zoom adjustment to the displayed markers;
- display or hide the main navigation controls;
- enable or disable mouse-wheel zooming;
- display a metric or imperial scale;
- choose which information is shown in map pop-ups;
- use the supplied markers or add custom markers;
- position a location manually by moving its marker directly on the map.
Location information
Each location can include information such as:
- location name;
- photograph;
- address;
- postcode and town or city;
- state, county, department or region;
- country;
- telephone number;
- email address;
- website;
- detailed description;
- opening hours and prices;
- link to a Joomla article;
- external link.
Locations are organised into categories to make them easier to manage and display. They can also be associated with custom markers.
Display modes
GMapFP Free provides several presentation options:
- display all locations;
- display a single category;
- display a group or selection of categories;
- map followed by location details;
- location details followed by the map;
- map only;
- location details only;
- detailed display of a single location;
- interactive location list;
- contact form.
All layouts are responsive and adapt to desktop computers, tablets and smartphones.
Included modules and plugins
The GMapFP Free package also includes:
- a location list module;
- a content plugin for inserting a map into a Joomla article;
- a Joomla search plugin;
- a plugin for navigating between locations;
- an OSMap integration plugin;
- a Quick Icon plugin providing fast access to the component from the Joomla administration area.
Display customisation
A customisable CSS file is provided, allowing you to adapt the appearance of GMapFP to your Joomla template and website branding.
GMapFP Free can be used to showcase tourist attractions, accommodation, restaurants, shops, services, associations, public facilities or any other content that needs to be displayed on a map.
GMapFP 6.1.0 is compatible with the PHP versions supported by Joomla 4, Joomla 5 and Joomla 6.
